To many Vince Staples has an eclectic style that may throw them off but at the same time his lyricism is arguably on par with some of your favorite rappers in the game. Today (June 28), the Long Beach artist who just dropped his latest LP The Big Fish Theory stopped by The Breakfast Club to explain why his music sounds the way that it sounds.
Sitting down with the early morning trio, Vince opens up about his feelings on Hip-Hop biopics, why he kind of doesn’t believe all those allegations against Michael Jackson, and what he thinks about being called a sellout.
Here are 9 things we learned about Vince Staples on The Breakfast Club.

1. Hip-Hop Biopics
Vince Staples wasn’t a real fan of Hip-Hop biopic films and flicks like All Eyez On Me and Notorious was “trash.” He did like Straight Outta Compton and Ray.
2. Not In Da Club
When Vince tours he says he doesn’t leave the hotel because if he goes to parties and things pop off he wouldn’t know where to dip to.
3. Keepin’ It Gangsta?
He gets annoyed with dudes telling him he needs to get gangsta with it on his records.

4. Techno Rap
Vince does acknowledge that his techno-ish sound is inspired by old school 80’s music like “The Egyptian Lover” and artists like MC Frosty.
5. Michael Jackson
Vince doesn’t really have an opinion about whether Michael Jackson molested those kids or not but says his man Ab-Soul went to Neverland Ranch as a kid and told him he didn’t see anything funny while he was there.
6. Jeezy
Vince once caught a two-week suspension from school for wearing a Jeezy Snowman t-shirt. He took the time to curse out the teacher who blessed him with that during the interview.
7. Parenthood
Though he talks about having kids VS admits he won’t be a hands-on dad saying he’ll be a provider but his baby mama will handle the daily responsibilities of raising the kids.
8. Parental Discretion Advise
Staples credits his father for being the reason he doesn’t do drugs and never will. He adds that his mother was able to tell a snitch from a standup dude.
9. Sellout?
As far as heads saying he sold out for becoming a spokesman for Sprite, Vince asks “How you sellout when Sprite is always on the shelf?” Stop hatin’, y’all.
