2017 has seen the once dormant Dave Chappelle roar back to the forefront of comedy with some new standup specials on Netflix and an upcoming 14-day run at Radio City Music Hall.
Today (June 30), the much revered comic genius—and Donnell Rawlings aka Ashy Larry—stopped by The Breakfast Club and chopped it up with the AM three amigos.
Speaking about what got him into comedy and his feelings on Kylie and Kendall banking off the culture, Dave Chappelle was as honest as he’s ever been on a bevy of subjects. That being said keep the man away from your apple pies.
Here’s the 9 things we learned from Dave Chappelle on The Breakfast Club.

1. Standup Kid
Dave Chappelle’s been rocking the standup scene since he was 14-years-old. He says at that age 600 kids were killed in Washington DC and the fear of death got him off his ass and into a career. Good call.
2. Bill Cosby
On the subject of if people should still appreciate what Bill Cosby has done in entertainment, Dave says he doesn’t take the rape accusations lightly and doesn’t have an answer for that.
3. Mumble Rappers
Dave says that he’ll party to mumble rap but doesn’t have a favorite mumble rapper. He says he likes to sing along to the records and Lord knows that’s almost impossible with today’s generation of rappers.
4. Skydive Dave
DC remembers skydiving once and says he “hated it.” He does admit it helped him appreciate what he had on the ground a lot more.
5. Donnell’s Pie
Donnell Rawlings got Dave to confess that he threatened to go American Pie and put his “baby maker” into an apple pie specially made for Donnell Rawlings.
6. Chappelle Show
Dave admits that he misses doing the Chappelle Show but doesn’t know if he could do it again even though it would be easier to do it in this era.
7. Charlie Murphy
The passing of Charlie Murphy was “tough” on Dave and Donnell and said he changed his life just by saying “I fought Rick James many times.” Classic.
8. Tupac Era
Dave remembers that being in the club when Tupac was alive was “darker times” due to the whole gangsta era being in full effect.
9. Kylie & Kendall Jenner
As far as Kylie and Kendall Jenner’s banking off of cultural appropriation, Dave feels “they don’t understand what they’re tapping into” and they’re not doing what they do maliciously.
