Peyton Manning commanded the hosting duties at this year’s ESPYs, performing well in the high-profile role and roasting athletes delightfully in the process. Former teammates Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were caught in the Manning joke crossfire, which as resulted in an amazing set of memes in its wake.
Manning took the swipe at Durant after speaking of the dominance of the U.S. gymnastics team, quipping that the current Golden State Warriors forward said he wanted to play for them next year, an obvious dig at Durant ditching the Oklahoma City Thunder. On cue, cameras zoomed in on Durant, who was stone-faced in response.
The cameras then went shifted to NBA MVP and OKC standout Russell Westbrook after Manning asked him for his thoughts, which the guard responded with a similar serious face and big laughs from attendees.
Reaction to the burn on Twitter poured in immediately after, with one fan noting that Durant’s mom laughed just as hard as everyone else which signals this must have been planned by the ESPYs as both players struggled to hold their own laughs in.
