With New York Fashion Week in town the who’s who of music are making their rounds about the runway shows. Nicki Minaj took that opportunity to call out designers who appropriate Black style.

At a recent performance at the Philipp Plein after party, Minaj closed out her show by addressing the constant swagger jacking of Hip-Hop culture by prominent fashion houses.

“Thank you, Philipp Plein. Designers get really big and really rich off of our culture, and then you don’t see a motherf***er that look anything like us in the front row half the time. So let’s make some noise for Philipp Plein tonight.”

While this type of culture exploitation is nothing new in high fashion, this call out comes at a very interesting time as Gucci has recently confirmed a collaboration with Dapper Dan after being caught stealing one of his original designs from the 1980’s.
