Tom Petty‘s death has rocked the entertainment world as expected, and celebrities across various genres and fields have shown their admiration for the legendary singer and songwriter.

While much of the outpouring of support for Petty came in droves on Monday when his passing was incorrectly announced, stars took to social media again after the news became official. Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow, William Shatner, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more showed their admiration for Petty’s work and career.

Petty has enjoyed one of the more successful careers in rock music, with a strong run of hit singles and albums between the 1970s and the 1990s as a soloist and with his backing band, The Heartbreakers. The track “Free Fallin” was his highest charting Billboard Hot 100 single as a soloist and with the Heartbreakers, their track “Don’t Do Me Like That” hit on the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 in 1980.
