Chuck D returned to his Long Island roots in the name of education. The Rap pioneer recently was principal for a day at his former middle school.

On Monday, Oct. 23, Public Enemy’s frontman took charge at Roosevelt Middle School where he met with the present faculty, toured his alma mater, visited the Apple Music Lab and listened to student-produced tracks.

Mista Chuck called the appearance a return to his roots. “Roosevelt is my base, and you can’t just call a place your base. You have to come back and actually do something in your base” he explained.

While the “Don’t Believe The Hype” rapper only stayed onsite for a couple hours, the students stated his presence will be felt for years to come. You can view footage from principal duties below.
