The Smithsonian Institution is world-renowned as a grouping of museums and research centers funded by the Federal Government, and it recently announced a new venture centered on preserving Hip-Hop culture. Today, a cypher kicked off online with the museums’ Twitter accounts dropping rhymes with other Twitter users chiming in with their museum and history-related bars as well.
We recently reported on the Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap Kickstarter campaign that had the backing of legends like Chuck D of Public Enemy, MC Lyte, 9th Wonder, and Questlove of The Roots. With just 12 days left in the campaign and a bit shy of the $250,00 goal, the Smithsonian kicked off a cypher on Friday morning (Nov. 3) that showcased some cleverness while helping raise awareness.
So far, the Kickstarter has raised over $191,000 and counting. Excellent stuff.
