Hip-Hop please take note. Chance The Rapper is setting the bar for how the culture should give back to the community.

On Monday, December 4, Chano hosted his monthly OpenMike event. In honor of his deceased mentor Mike Hawkins, he and his Social Works organization decided to celebrate Hawkins’ influence on the Chicago youth.

Chance gifted 300 students with a pair of Nike Air Jordan Retro 11’s in a yet to be released colorway. The “No Problem” MC hit the stage to personally surprise the crowd.

He later took to Twitter to give thanks to Nike and all that were involved with the special donation. “On the anniversary of the passing of my mentor Brother Mike, @OpenMikeChicago had one of it’s best nights yet. Thanks to @Korporate00 for speaking and thanks to @Jumpman23 for bringing 300 pair of unreleased 11s for the young creatives. Until next year… POWER TO THE PEOPLE…”

Naturally, the kids were very geeked at the gesture.

Earlier this year Chance grilled chicken to raise money for public school education. Clap for ’em.
