Dancehall artist and Grammy award nominee Buju Banton has been granted bail in his pending case.

According to published reports, Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, has been granted bail in the amount of $250,000 and as a condition of his release must participate in and pay for 24-hour security to ensure he didn’t leave his home except on emergency visits to his doctor or lawyer.

As previously reported, Banton was arrested for allegedly participating in a scheme to buy large quantities of cocaine from an undercover police officer. Earlier this month, a jury deadlocked on charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute coke and a firearm charge that could have put Banton behind bars for life.

Banton, who said he had no real intentions of either buying or selling cocaine, said that he only told the undercover agent of the plan to impress him because he believed the agent had good contacts in the music industry.

Banton is due back in court in December
