The Internets are polarized when it comes to whether or not Black Ink Crew’s Sky should have approved the filming of the reunion with her two sons. Ever since they were mentioned a few seasons ago, she’s has been battling with the decision of finally meeting them as young men after giving them up for adoption when they were little boys.
Either way people may have felt about the cameras being there, this episode was enough to make the toughest Twitter troll shed a tear. From Sky meeting the woman who raised her kids to the heartbreaking conversations with her sons (one positive, the other, not as), this was a heart-wrenching turn for the Black Ink franchise.
Before we get too heavy, let’s touch on the 113th location and their shenanigans. Ceasar hears the results of his STD test from last week and finds out that he’s contracted a UTI, which is absolutely hilarious. How is it that you don’t realize something’s going on with your urethra until you hit the doctor’s office? We digress.
He’s decided to make a change in his life: detoxing with cucumber water, going vegan and making amends with the mother of his now-teenage daughter. We’re all about making changes for the better but we’ll see how long he can keep this up.

Alex needs to work on slaying more tattoos and less vaginas. This week, he got his machine to work but his test tat on his homegirl was less than impressive. Much less. Ceasar suggests that Mel take him under her wing as an apprentice. She turns her nose up but you’re the one who hired him after checking his portfolio, young lady.

Mel’s life partner copped an RV for them to live in while they sublet their apartment in order to save up enough bread to pay the IRS the 30 Gs she owes. She also stunts on Walt’s new hire this week, sending her to the bodega for paper towels then locking her out of the shop. Cold world.
Okay. Now that we have that out of the way, Sky and her friend Allison fly down to Texas and our hearts are fluttering with hope as we await a positive outcome all around. The adoptive mom and her daughter are more than receptive to this hood-ass, tatted up chick with an exposed tummy, straight out of Harlem. Sky jumps on the woman as soon as the door cracks; one would think they were blood related. The level of appreciation, respect and unconditional love portrayed here already made our hearts full.
She wanted to see all the pictures from their upbringing. She wanted to know their favorite foods and snacks. She wanted to sit in their seats at the dinner table. Sky was the happiest we’ve ever seen her on this show. Genuinely ecstatic. Then when her youngest son came home from football practice, her heart just seemed to burst with affection. “I’m in love! He loves me,” she said, almost in disbelief that after all this time, after everything she thinks she did wrong, this little man still loves her. Called her “Mom” and everything.
The older son, Genesis, is a different story. It’s crazy how the two young men have completely different reactions to reuniting with their birth mother but both responses are equally reminiscent of Sky. The elder child had finally answered after several attempts to get the two together. Sky met with him at a restaurant. She poured her heart out, pleading for him to understand that what she had was new money and when Black Ink began she was still working at Macy’s. He sat silent, but clearly grew more and more upset. He’d begun to tear up but it was as if he didn’t know what to do with that type of emotion, so he (did what we could see his mom doing after having watched her for six seasons) got irate. The more she talked the angrier he appeared until he finally jumped up, banging the table. Security pounced and he legit tossed three grown men, even after one tried putting him in a headlock. The kid might be 145 lbs soaking wet and he sprung into action until security had to team up and physically put him out of the spot with Sky screaming for them not to touch her son, all the while.
According to the adoptive mom, Genesis’ father had been getting into his ear for some months at that point. So he was likely the connect in creating the video interview at Dutchess’ shop. The kid has anger issues, which is understandable, because his mom does too, it’s just sad that she had to see them firsthand in a moment that was to be full of love.
Check in next week as we get into what else the Black Ink crew has going on.
