NY Congressman Quits Amid Craigslist Scandal
It all began when a 34-year-old single woman placed a post on Craigslist’s “women seeking men” section last month. She was looking for “financially & emotionally secure” males, and New York Congressman Christopher Lee figured he was right up her alley.
He used his own Gmail account, told the woman he was 39 and divorced, then sent the infamous topless pic.
There was some minor flirting, and all seemed well for the politician until the woman did a web search and discovered who Lee really was.
Disturbed by his deception, the woman posted the pic and their politicking emails to Gawker.com right away and the story broke. Presented with the evidence, Lee’s spokesman initially insisted the Congressman’s email account had been hacked and that he was “happily married.”
Hours later, the 46-year-old married father stepped down from the House of Representatives, but there is no word on whether he will be kicked out of his own house.
In an email statement he wrote,
“The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”
