The Roots Prep “Orchestral” New Album

Philadelphia Hip-Hop band The Roots are prepping a new album.

In an interview with Billboard.com, Roots’ drummer ?uestlove spoke about the group’s upcoming Orchestral LP.

“This is going to be our first full-fledged narrative concept album,” ?uestlove said. “It’s going to be a challenge to figure out how to get from point A to B — or in this case, point B to point A — and have it seem natural.”

The band is working to finish the album by November, but could be looking at a release date in January or February 2012.

“It’s going to be heavy on sort of orchestral chamber music with harder beats in it,” ?uestlove added about the album’s concept.

“[It will be] kind of flipped. Instead of from dark to light, it’s an album that goes from light to dark,” Roots MC Black Thought add to describe the album, which has a “one-word title that’s spelled incorrectly.”

Orchestral will be the Roots’ 11th studio album.

Their 2010 critically acclaimed album, How I Got Over, was nominated for a Best Rap Album at the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011.
