Long immortalized in the annals of the written word, Angelou's likeness will be featured on a U.S. quarter, making her the first Black woman to be featured on the coin.


The legendary wordsmith will have her image placed on a limited edition run of quarter coins beginning next year, essentially making her the first Black woman to appear on U.S. currency.

The U.S. Postal Service announced Monday (Feb. 23) that it will honor the legendary Maya Angelou with a “Forever” stamp. Dr. Angelou passed away last year at the age of 86 and is best known for her memoir I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings.
