White Man Shoots Black Teen Because His Music Was Too Loud, Uses “Stand Your Ground” Defense

A Florida teen lost his life after being shot over the weekend, allegedly because his music was too loud. Jordan Russell Davis, 17, was gunned down by 45-year-old Michael Dunn following a verbal exchange.

The unarmed teen who was with his friends at a gas a station in Jacksonville, refused to turn his music down, which led to him being shot by Dunn at least “eight or nine times.”
Dunn told police that the group was blasting the music in their car, which was adjacent to his vehicle. After having words, he asserts that he was in fear for his life and used his gun under the “stand your ground” law. “He got threatened and had to do what he had to do, and it’s sad, so sad,” his daughter told a local new station. “A terrible tragedy on both sides. It really is. I don’t know. What are you going to do in that situation? You don’t know what you are going to do. He just reacted.”

Following the shooting, Dunn fled the scene alongside his girlfriend, but a witness wrote down his license plate number. He was picked up by police at his home in Satellite Beach, after returning to the area once he learned that Davis died from the shooting.

Given the similarities to the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, Dunn’s lawyer, Robin Lemonidis, blew off the comparison as being “ridiculous,” maintaining that her client was fearful for his life. “There are no comparisons to the Trayvon Martin situation,” Lemonidis said. “He is devastated and and horrified by the death of the teen.”

Dunn , a gun collector, was denied bail Monday (Nov. 26) and remains in custody on murder charges.

Davis’ body will be flown back to Atlanta where his mother lives. He will be buried this weekend.

How the H is that “stand your ground law” when you F with a person first.. he should have went on about his business or called the cops and let them handle it.. hows is a person music bothering you that much that you have to shoot them… and i have seen w boys blasting loud music all the time and RAP music at that.. these w people are out of hand and somebody needs to do something about this killing of blk people…one good start would be to stick with your own and up lift your own race!

  • ConcernedMother4ourteens

He’s being charged with second degree murder, how when, per your lawyer, you reached into your glovebox, loaded your gun, and fired 9 shots off because you feared your life and according to you these teens had a shot gun that never fired at you and the truck these teens were in never moved until it was impounded by the police so where did the shot gun go??

  • Dez

The boy was playing loud music in a public area. Mr. Dunn should’ve went about his business, pumped his gas & get the hell out of there. He wouldn’t have gotten arrested, the boy would’ve been alive and all would be normal. What an idiot!

I see them tring to cover this one up like they tried Trayvon case. This case is alot different if anything he should be charge with first instead second let see how this play out..another I want to see what they would say if it was the other way around mean when a black person shoot a white person off that stand ur ground law just see how fast they run the case an to see what charge they charge the blacks with cause this sht is out of hand really.. Stay safe my people and im not talking bout one race thats to all

  • larquan

If this man was scared of them doing something to him in the first place he would not have said anything to them before what insued he is guilty of first degree murder his defence of ‘stand your ground’ is nonsence

  • Laura Brinning

As a Floridian, I am appalled at yet another attempt at using “stand your ground” as being a defense for shooting a young man for being black and having an attitude! Whatever happened to opening up a good, old fashined can of whoopass?

  • gail
