Twista Meets With Kids From Derrion Albert Incident

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

“All these kids been getting killed, all this stuff going on, we have to make a change.”

Ever since the tragedy of Derrion Albert in Chicago, Hip-Hop has risen as a community to raise more awareness of the troubles going on within the youth, but it has been hard to say if things have actually been implemented or if it is all just hot air.

Rapper Twista, who is a Chicago native, felt the need to make a difference as he took the time to return back home and make a more direct difference and meeting up with those that were part of the altercation that led (more...)

Man Charged With Murder of UConn Football Player

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

A man has been charged with the murder of 20-year-old University of Connecticut football star, Jasper Howard.

Police formally charged 21-year-old John William Lomax III with murder. His bond has been set at $2 million. Police also charged 20-year-old Hakim Muhammad with conspiracy to commit assault and 21-year-old Jamal Todd with pulling a fire alarm that ultimately led to a fight.
Lomax's attorney, Deron Freeman, is adamant about his client's innocence and claims Lomax was just trying to break up the fight.

“Lomax, who is not a UConn student and lives 30 miles from campus, wasn't present when the argument started and doesn't know what it was about, but tried to break up the fight.”

Jasper “Jazz” Howard was fatally stabbed outside a school dance just hours after the school's homecoming football game on October 18.

Howard's funeral was Monday. All of his teammates were in attendance.
So sad, does the violence ever stop?

Rakim Has Mixed Feelings About Nas Ode on “Street's Disciple”

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

“To do a biography on somebody is putting their business on wax.”

If everyone will take a moment to lay back on a blast to the past, a trip will be taken back to  2004 when Nas was on his climb back to the top after dropping Stillmatic in 2001 and following it up with God's Son in 2002.  On the same page as Jay with The Blueprint 2: The Gift and The Curse, Mr. Jones decided to drop the double-disc Street's Disciple.

The curse for Jay was the exact same curse for Nas as fans felt that there was entirely too much material and condensing the two discs into one would have rid the album of unnecessary filler space.

Disc two, however, featured “U.B.R. (Unauthorized Biography of Rakim)” where Nasir decided to pay homage to a Hip-Hop pioneer and show his appreciation towards his fellow New York rapper.

The honor may not have been fully appreciated, however, as William Griffen, a.k.a Rakim, has always harbored mixed feelings towards Nas showing his “respect” (more...)

Trae Da Truth Banned from Houston Radio

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

What kind of world is it when an artist isn't even being shown love from their own city, let alone local radio station?  Regardless of how fans and city folk may feel about a particular rapper, the stations usually have his/her back through it all.

This saying clearly doesn't apply for Houston's own Trae Da Truth, as word is spreading that radio station 97.9 the Box has put a hold on playing any music by him or any other songs that he has been featured on unless his verses are removed from the track entirely.

The reasoning behind the ban stems (more...)

Swizz Beatz Given Honor By Russell Simmons

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Swizz Beatz is a producer that has found a way to reinvent himself on numerous occasions and keep himself from sinking in Hip-Hop.  With his most recent work for Chris Brown on “I Can Transform Ya” to Jay-Z's “On to the Next One,” it's clear that Swizzy still has it.

The likes of Russell Simmons have taken notice to the producer and his presence by honoring the Ruff Ryder alum along with the Foundation For Ethnic Understanding Tuesday night.

Swizzy received the award mainly due to the fact that he is Muslim.  Although that may sound very blatant (more...)

Shyne To Be Deported Today

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Shyne's time has finally come. As previously reported he was released from prison on October 6 only to be detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement who were investigating his United States citizenship.  He enlisted the help of Harvard Professor Charles Ogletree to bid for a pardon form New York Governor, David Patterson but to no avail.

Unfortunately for Po his efforts were in vain and Jamal Barrow a.k.a. Shyne is leaving the country (more...)

Jay-Z/Alicia Keys Performance Postponed

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Looks like New York will have to wait a little longer to be seduced by that “Empire State Of Mind” as the World Series performance scheduled for Jay-Z and Alicia Keys has been pushed back to Thursday instead of today.

Initially, it was reported that Hov had agreed to perform for Game 1, but had a conflict of interest as he had another performance on his tour.  Newreports have stated that the projected forecast showed weather which would heavily impact the field.  The staging for the actual performance would create an unsafe (more...)

RNC Under Fire For Racist Obama Picture

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

The Republican National Committee's Facebook page raised eyebrows after a racist picture appeared on the group's fan page. A “fan” of the committee posted a picture of President Obama eating a piece of fried chicken with a caption that reads:

“Miscegenation is a crime against American values. Repeal Loving v. Virginia.”

ObamaRacism

Miscegenation or the mixing of different racial groups was deemed unconstitutional in 1967 during the Loving V. Virginia court case. The court's ruling ended all race based legal restrictions on marriage.

The picture has since been removed from the site.

This has not been the president's first wave of Facebook bashing.

As previously reported a poll was posted on the site in September asking if the President should be killed. Users had the option to select yes, no, or maybe so.

That poll has been removed as well while the Secret Service investigates.

Lovely.

And you thought racism was dead?
