Catholic Leader That Aided Cover-Up Of Serial Rapes Refuses To Resign

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

A leader in the Catholic Church that admitted he helped cover-up the rapes of two young boys at the hands of another priest is ignoring calls for his resignation.

Ireland's Senior Roman Catholic, Cardinal Sean Brady says he will not resign despite admitting to knowing about the crimes.

Brady admitted to interviewing two boys in 1975, collecting evidence on Rev. Brendan Smyth who they say raped them both. Despite his investigation into the crime however, Brady never reported to police and both children were required to sign oaths promising not to tell their parents about the abuse they suffered.

Reverend Brendan Smyth was left free to abuse other children and went on to molest and rape an estimated 90 children in Ireland, Britain and the U.S.
According to Cardinal Brady he didn't tell police because the church practiced a “culture of silence about this, a culture of secrecy.”

He explained himself further to police saying,

"Yes, I knew that these were crimes," Brady said. "But I did not feel that it was my responsibility to denounce the actions of Brendan Smyth to the police. Now I know with hindsight that I should have done more, but I thought at the time I was doing what I was required to do."

Brady says the only way he will resign is if Pope Benedict XVI asks him personally to leave.
So 90 other children had to suffer because of a “culture of secrecy?"

SMH...Sad.

Buying several tickets for the drawing on March 9, the man, 49, threw away the tickets, but was informed by his brother that an employee from the Maryland Lottery that he actually had a winning ticket.

That just goes to show that anybody can find just about anything if they dig deep enough into the garbage can.  Everyone be looking out to the local dumpster, you could be a winner.

Appeals Court Upholds KKK Ruling, Leader Sentenced To Three Life Sentences For Killing Black Men

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

A group of federal judges have sealed the fate of a refuted member of the Klu Klux Klan, throwing out his appeal for a 2007 conviction and sentencing him to three life sentences.

74-year-old James Ford Seale will never see the light of day again 43 years after he kidnapped and killed two Black men in Mississippi in 1964.

Based on his conviction, Seale and a group of his fellow Klansmen captured 19-year-old Charles Eddie Moore and 19-year-old Henry Hezekiah Dee in southwest Mississippi and took them to the backwoods.

Following that they tossed the two young men in the trunk of a car before tying them up, weighing them down and throwing them into the Mississippi River, possibly while they were still alive.

The bodies of Dee and Moore were recovered weeks later, identifiable only by personal objects found with them.

A Mississippi jury convicted Seale of two counts of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy to commit kidnapping in 2007 giving him three sentences.

He is currently in a federal prison in Indiana.

Proof that it's never too late for justice.

Chicago Clergy Calls For Ban On Blunts

Monday, March 15th, 2010

A Bishop in Chicago and other anti-drug supporters are calling for a ban on “blunt wraps”, a type of tobacco leaf paper often used to roll marijuana.

Bishop Larry Trotter, the head of Sweet Holy Spirit Church, brought examples of the blunt wraps to church Sunday and spoke against them saying,

“We need to stop people from bringing things and making them available to our children and making them drug addicts….Having this product in mainstream stores is like having drug pushers in our neighborhoods. Blunt wraps are an indefensible product marketed to children and entirely identified with illegal drug use."

Trotter plans to circulate a petition to pass on to politicians in hopes of getting an anti-blunt law in place.

Until then he's calling for local convenience stores to stop the sales of the illegitimately used products.
Ehhh….an anti-blunt law?

Too much or just enough?
