Lost Boyz Member and Queens bred emcee Mr. Cheeks recently sat down to discuss his addiction to alcohol and how he truly felt about the death of his best friend and partner in rhyme, Freaky Tah.

In an interview with XXLmag.com, Mr. Cheeks discussed how the death of Freaky Tah sent him in to a downward spiral using alcohol as a way to cope with everyday life.

“After I lost [Freaky Tah] I started to hit the bottle too much and wilding out,” Mr. Cheeks said in the interview. “I was an alcoholic. N***a was going crazy with it. I was going in. I would just spaz out and talk to people crazy. I was spitting on niggas that talked the wrong way to me. I had to regain myself. I was losing myself. After I lost him I started to hit the bottle too much and wilding out. Now on his birthday we throw it up and support his family and do what we do for each other.”

Although his addiction started after the loss of his best friend, Mr. Cheeks states that ultimately he ended up losing himself in the process.

“I was losing myself and wasn’t nobody there to tell me to chill,” Mr. Cheeks continued. “I had to figure that out for myself. Plus, I’m the general of this LB Shyte so I can’t be looking wild and doing wild Shyte. I had to rehab myself on that.”

Even though the road has been rocky, Mr. Cheeks states that after reaching the “lowest point” in his life, he is back in control and ready to release his first solo album in six years.

“It’s straight hip-hop. I’m still hard body. It’s got a whole bunch of ingredients. It’s gonna be a good meal. You will have it all on your plate in that album,” Mr. Cheeks said. “When [fans] hear my new album, they gonna think we grew up but the music is still Mr. Cheeks.”
