Luther Campbell Suing University Of Miami Booster
Luther Campbell isn't taking allegations by convicted Ponzi schemer and former University of Miami booster Nevin Shapiro lightly.
The former 2 Live Crew member has filed a lawsuit against Shapiro, stating that he was slandered by Shapiro in a Yahoo news report, where Shapiro alleged Campbell of giving improper benefits to University of Miami players.
"When you claim that you're 'Little Luke' and you're a Ponzi schemer and the reason why you claim you're 'Little Luke' [is] you're saying I did something illegal...I have a real serious problem with that," Campbell said to NBC Miami.
In the Yahoo Sports article, Shapiro said “Here's the thing: Luther Campbell was the first uncle who took care of players before I got going.”
“His role was diminished by the NCAA and the school, and someone needed to pick up that mantle. That someone was me. He was ‘Uncle Luke,' and I became ‘Little Luke.'"
Luke's lawsuit states that in making those comments, Shapiro was "motivated by spite, ill-will and revenge."
Shapiro is currently serving a 20 year federal prison sentence for his involvement in a $930 million Ponzi scheme.
Campbell's interview with NBC Miami is posted below.
