“Justice for Trayvon Martin” Rally To Mark Two-Month Anniversary Of Teen’s Death
The parents of Trayvon Martin, will make the two month anniversary of their son’s death with a massive rally to be held in Los Angeles Thursday (April 26). Coordinated by the NAACP, the National Action Network, Empowerment Movement, and the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Justice for Trayvon Martin Foundation Los Angeles Rally will be held at the West Angeles Church North Campus, Thursday (April 26).
A mixture civil rights figures, celebrities, and citizens will all come together to show their support for the Martin family. Special guests include NAACP president Benjamin Jealous, Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Ervin “Magic” Johnson, Chaka Khan, David Banner, Mary Mary, and Big Boy. The purpose of the event is to advocate for victims of senseless crimes and their families, as well as educating young people on conflict resolution techniques, and increase public awareness of racial profiling.
The Florida teen was killed by George Zimmerman on Feb. 26, while on his way back from a corner store. Zimmerman has claimed self-defense under the rules of Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law, which has since been brought up for review, in wake of Martin’s death.
