Nas Talks Grammys, New Album, Kendrick Lamar & More

Nas catapulted himself back into the forefront of Hip-Hop adoration after dropping the stellar Life Is Good album in 2012. Now the Queens rap veteran is already working on his latest opus, and gave props to some of last year’s best albums, too.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Nas spoke on his travels in music after leaving the streets behind. He also mentioned his Grammy Award-nominated single “Daughters,” working with Lauryn Hill and giving respect to rising stars Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill on their 2012 album releases.

“The fact that it made the final cut of the album; the fact that it became a single was great enough for me. Like, wow,” said Nas about the track. “And then to be acknowledged by the Grammys is mind-blowing.” It appears Nas’ daughter may not have enjoyed the song’s message, after the rapper said the two have a “different relationship.”

Nas gushed about his recent tour mate Lauryn Hill as well. “She’s almost like someone from a different era. She possesses this aura of someone like Roberta Flack, Nina Simone. It’s almost like you’re with them,” shared Nas. He also said he’s open to collaborating with the mysterious singer once more.

Nas kept his ear to the streets, saying that Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mills topped his list of artists for 2012.

“No disrespect to nobody else in rap music, but Kendrick Lamar. I’m really happy about his record. I needed that,” said Nas. “His record reaches you. It gives you hope. Also, Meek Mill. His energy is amazing.”

In the interview, Nas said he’s already working on his 12th studio album, saying he’s “in a great zone.”
