Sylvia Rhone Named President Of Epic Records

Sylvia Rhone is a well-versed industry veteran and her expertise and services has been sought by Sony Music Entertainment’s Epic Records.

The company, headed by their Chairman & CEO, L.A. Reid has named her to be its new president in taking them to the promised land.

Via Complex:

Rhone is an music industry veteran who was previously the chairwoman and CEO of the Elektra Entertainment Group in 1994 and named president of Motown Records and executive vice president of Universal Records in 2004. She remained the president of Universal Motown Records until 2011. At Universal, she worked with Lil Wayne, Kid Cudi, Akon, Erykah Badu, Nelly, Melanie Fiona, and Stevie Wonder. And at Elektra she worked with artists like Missy Elliott, Metallica, Busta Rhymes, En Vogue, Third Eye Blind, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and Fabolous.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to expand my relationship with the talented team and the amazing artists at Epic,” said Rhone, in a press release. “What makes this opportunity different from any other is my partnership with renowned music executive L.A. Reid. I’m looking forward to what I think will be the finest chapter in my career.”

Industry execs don’t normally come into nationally attention unless the news is an eyecatcher and Rhone is arguably best well-known amongst the general public for her 2009 rift with Drake as he experienced an all-out war amongst the labels.

Drake was snarky in his attack and he even dropped a diss song but has since apologized for his remarks.

Rhone will join the an existing roster which includes Hip-Hop acts such as Outkast, Future and Travis Scott, while still maintaining control of her record label Vested In Culture. Its marquee act just happenes to be Casey Veggies and he spoke highly on Rhone’s leadership style to Hip-Hop Wired late last year.
