The-Dream – “Black” [VIDEO]
The controversy surrounding Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling came to a head yesterday with the NBA’s decision to ban him for life. Grammy winning singer-songwriter, The-Dream, was among the many watching the proceedings and was so elated by the league’s decision that he released “Black.”
The cut is accompanied by a visual treatment that pays homage to the strength and valor of Blacks in history. To say that Sterling’s racist remarks were the sole inspiration for this cut would be an overstepping assumption, because The-Dream mentions cultural afflictions that have had longstanding affects on Black people.
“Enough pain can make a whole race bitter/They say the right amount of love can heal us/Reminiscing back when Hilfiger made us feel like n***as/And that’s the kind of thing that sticks with you,” The-Dream sings over production based around captivating piano keys.
