Rapper and St. Louis native Nelly spoke with Erin Burnett about the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

In the nearly four-minute conversation, he touched on St. Louis’ history and the city’s detachment from the Civil Rights Movement. He suggested that Ferguson’s recent uproar is merely a result of years of oppression, as St. Louis has long been very much segregated.

Later, the rapper also expressed his fervent interest in teaming up with Brown’s family and creating a scholarship that will help aid local teens receive higher education, the way Mike had planned to prior.
