Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Mo. police officer who shot and killed Black teenager Michael “Mike” Brown, is awaiting a grand jury decision to decide his fate. Rumors are swirling about that Wilson will retire from the force if he is not indicted in a bid to squash potential unrest.

Several media outlets have reported that Wilson has told close friends and associates that he would step down if he dodges the indictment. Since the top of the week, the entire nation has kept its attention on Ferguson as it eagerly waits to know if Wilson will face charges. Already in Ferguson are peaceful protests, but there are concerns from state and national officials that things could escalate quickly.

More from Raw Story:

The St. Louis County grand jury is meeting Friday in what could be its final session, and an announcement could be made in the case at any time.

Wilson has expressed concern about resigning while the grand jury was still in session out of fear that it would imply he was admitting fault, CNN reported.

The resignation talks could fall apart, the network reported, based on the grand jury’s decision.

But Wilson is unlikely to return to his job, said Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson, regardless of the grand jury’s decision.

Observers have heard claims that the grand jury would be coming to a decision before, with many thinking Monday would be the end of it. There has not been an official world of when the decision would be announced.
