Bernie Sanders never appeared to be the darling of the Democratic Party but it was apparent he had the support of many who wanted to see the Vermont senator as the next President of the United States. Amid the DNC leaked email scandal and rumors that the Democratic Party tailored the primary towards their current nominee Hillary Clinton, a top Sanders staffer says that isn’t the case.
In a series of tweets Monday, Symone Sanders, the former national press secretary for the failed campaign, shot down the chatter that the primary was rigged in Clinton’s favor.
“Look, people are well within their rights to have passions and opinions. That is how we create change in this country. We need the passion, tweeted Ms. Sanders.
She added, “But let me be clear – NO ONE STOLE THIS ELECTION! Team Sanders we did AMAZING WORK. But we lost. It’s a hard reality for some.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the former chair of the Democratic National Convention and Florida congresswoman, stepped down from her post after emails that appeared to reveal a bias towards Clinton over Sen. Sanders as the presumptive nominee were revealed.
While Ms. Sanders continued to rail against the allegations that the Democratic Party and MSNBC pushed an anti-Sanders narrative, the public opinion strongly suggests that most believe it was an inside job.
No further comment was made by the Sanders camp regarding the scandal. Sen. Sanders did speak Monday night at the DNC kickoff in Philadelphia, continuing his ringing endorsement for Clinton this fall.
