The terrain of the game has changed. It’s now a digital world, and it looks like renowned record executive, Lyor Cohen, and business partners Kevin Liles and Todd Moscowitz will lead the frontier on how to find fresh talent via their new label venture, 300.
During his keynote speech at Midem in Cannes, France, Cohen revealed that he’s partnered with Twitter to develop new A&R tools meant to benefit the entire music industry. The former Warner Music Group chief closed the deal on Saturday (February 1).
“In the modern A&R business we are all looking for talent in various places, and certainly Twitter is a terrific place to look at talent,” Cohen explained. “If you want to get signed, you have to engage with Twitter, and of course YouTube, and we’ll be looking to try and develop tools that the rest of the music community can utilize.”
Cohen’s keynote marked the first time he discussed 300 — a company’s whose mission statement is “to create a lasting reputation for high quality and artist development” — with the public.
