Michelle Obama sent a heart felt thanks to Chance The Rapper for donating $1 million to the Chicago Public School system.

After expressing how disappointed he was from his meeting with Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner about the state of the Chicago Public School system last Friday, Chance The Rapper promised to come up with a plan by Monday.

That plan was a $1 million donation to CPS. He also set up a fundraiser where for every $100,000 raised, he will match it with $10,000. The money will be put towards the arts and original programming. His efforts were immediately applauded on social media. Among the many people praising him was Michelle Obama.

Mrs. Obama sent Chance a tweet telling him “thanks for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us so much. You are an example of the power of arts education.”

Obama and Chance are not total strangers. Chance’s father worked as former President Barack Obama’s state director back when he was an Illinois State Senator.
