It’s no secret that the Republic Party is not a fan of President Obama, but their unwillingness to look at the facts, and attack him based on his race remains unsettling. The latest culprit to take an unwarranted shot at Obama is U.S. Rep Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), who thinks that the only reason the president was elected is because he’s black.
Walsh, a vocal member of the Tea Party, made the slanderous comments during a town hall event in Wheeling, Ill. Sunday (April 29). “He was a historic figure,” Walsh started. “He’s our first African-American president. The country voted for him because of that. It made us feel good about [our]self. I’ve said it before, it helped that John McCain was about 142 years old. It helped that the economy was tanking. A lot of these things helped. But he never would have gotten there without his historic nature.”
This isn’t the first time that Walsh has launched racial hatred in our president’s direction. In an interview last fall, the 50-year-old affirmed his thoughts on Obama’s election. “Why was he elected? Again, it comes back to who he was, and there’s nothing racist about this. It is what it is. If he had been a dynamic, white, state senator elected to Congress he wouldn’t have gotten in the game this fast.”
While his opposers appear to be hung up on his racial background, Obama sees it as no big deal. In his cover story for the new issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, he stated that the color of his skin is as important to the black community as the rest of the country. “You shouldn’t also underestimate the fact that there are a whole bunch of little white girls and white boys all across the country who just take it for granted that there’s an African-American president. That’s the president they’re growing up with, and that’s changing attitudes.”
The Commander in Chief can expect more partisan hatred as he gears up for his re-election campaign. His newly released campaign ad, Forward, highlights the changes his administration has made in the last four years, and will likely become more fodder for Fox News. Luckily, their opinion is not what matters when it comes to the polls.
