Mike Tyson is officially headed for Broadway. The 45-year-old announced Monday (June 18) that his one-man Broadway show, Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, will debut at New York City’s Longacre Theater, next month, and will run for six nights.
Directed by Spike Lee, the show chronicles the former boxer’s personal and professional life, including his battle with addiction, and the rape charge that sent him to jail in 1992. “I’m very vulnerable and I’m just telling you who I am and where I’m from and how this happened,” Tyson said during the press conference held at the Longacre.
Lee, who will mark his first directing gig on the Great White Way, lauded Tyson for committing to the show. “It takes courage to get in the ring,” he said. “But it takes courage to get on the stage.
“It’s a great story and he tells it masterfully. He’s lifted himself off the canvas.”
Tyson’s show will premiere July 31.
