Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson and Evelyn Lozada’s marriage fell apart in record time, and their divorce has been finalized at warp speed, just as he’s opened up about their demise. The couple’s divorce became official as of Wednesday (Sept. 19) over a month after Johnson was arrested for head-butting his bride during an argument at their Miami home.
The 34-year-old is facing a battery charge and struck a plea deal over the altercation and after weeks of silence, explained his downward spiral, and exonerated Lozada of any wrong doing, for an episode of Inside the NFL, airing Thursday (Sept. 20). “I’m trying to find out how can I channel my anger when I’m in situations to where I would pop off,” he said. “How can I diffuse those situations, trigger points? Right now I need to work on Chad.”
He also confirmed that his firing from the Miami Dolphins was a direct result of the incident. “I had an altercation with my wife. I take full responsibility for it. I apologize for it. I’m human and I made a mistake,” he explained. “’That was the reason,” he said of being fired. “There’s no need to blow smoke up my a**.”
During a sit-down with Iyanla Vanzant for the OWN series Iyanla Fix My Life, Lozada eluded to being abused by Johnson prior to the well-publicized assault.
Aside from losing his job, Johnson’s home is facing foreclosure, his reality show with Lozada was canceled, and he’s being sued by a former employee.
