Going to the very place that he sought to inhabit, Mitt Romney put on a brave face as he entered the White House Thursday (Nov. 29).
Romney arrived to have lunch with President Obama, and the two talked for an hour.
Showing up at 12:30 p.m., Romney and Obama dined on white turkey chili and Southwestern grilled chicken salad, and discussed how they can work together.
No reporters were allowed inside the meeting, held in the president’s private dining room, but White House press secretary Jay Carney, promised that a photo and short briefing would be released sometime today. “Each man wanted to have a private conversation. They did not want to turn it into a press event,” Carney said. “This was a conversation the president wanted to have with governor Romney as he mentioned the night of the election. There was not an agenda involved.”
Leading up to the session, Carney explained that presidents have a history of meeting with their opponents and that Obama wanted to “continue the tradition.”
Prior to visiting the White House Romney met with former running mate Paul Ryan. The two men shared stories about their familiar and are said to have reflected on their failed presidential bid.
