Late rapper Heavy D was laid to rest during a private funeral service in Mount Vernon, New York on Friday.
The funeral ceremony was held at the Grace Baptist Church in the rapper’s hometown.
Family and friends including Jay-Z, Will Smith, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Mary J. Blige, former Heavy D & the Boyz group members, DJ Eddie F and G-Whiz, and many others attended the invite-only funeral.
Also during the ceremony Rev. Al Sharpton read a letter from President Obama that was addressed to Heavy’s 11-year-old daughter Xea Myers,.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time,” Obama’s note read.
“He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
