A hardware store in Kentucky wants people to take out any pinned up aggression that they may have towards President Obama.
Stout’s Building Center in Mount Washington, Ky. is selling a 5-foot tall punching bag with a caricature of the commander in chief plastered on the front, and claim that’s it’s all a joke. “Business people take a punch at him. People come in and hug him. It’s been both-sided,” said owner Kenneth Stout.
Unfortunately for Stout, everyone doesn’t seem to find the humor in the ploy. Texas Democratic strategist Matt Angle has uncovered Stout’s reasoning for selling the product. “He clearly is not very smart. He’s asking for controversy. Maybe that’s what he wanted.”
Meanwhile, some residents were also unhappy. “It is the office of the President of the United State. You have to show some respect,” said resident Jen Pellerin.
Stout refuses to apologize because he feels it’s unnecessary noting that he would sell the same kind of toys for Mitt Romney, if they were available.
The president is often at the center of Republican attacks. From the undying “birther” debate, to Romney accusing him of encouraging the Chicago teachers strike, but he’s not the only president who has dealt with criticism. Online retailers are also selling a President Bush “Bop Bag,” which comes in both a large and hand-held sizes.
