The final years of music soul legend James Brown’s life were marred with unpredictability and alleged drug usage. So much to the point where fans thought he had been an habitual abuse problem his entire life.

Get on Up star Chadwick Boseman is out telling the public the upcoming biopic on The Godfather of Soul will set the record straight on the nature of his addiction.

In an interview for MSNBC conducted by theGrio’s Chris Witherspoon, Boseman opened up about playing Brown and revealed what he thinks to be the biggest misconception the public has about the Get on Up singer.

“I think people usually make statements about him being crazy. Most people think that he was on drugs his whole life, and that’s absolutely not true,” said Boseman. “There was a period of time where he did make that a part of his life, but it wasn’t the entire time. In fact, he spent a lot of time being anti-drugs, a lot of time making songs about that.”

Boseman, who starred last year as Jackie Robinson in the critically acclaimed biopic, 42, says he has no plans of bringing any other icons to life but will never say never.

“The rest of the characters need to be made up. No more icons until God sends one.”
