Dame Dash wants his money, but he’s letting his lawyer handle the dirty work this time. The Roc-a-fella Records co-founder and culture vulture outer is suing director Lee Daniels for $25 million for unpaid movie royalties.
According to Dash, he put up $2 million in funding out of his pocket for early Daniels work like The Woodsman but never saw a return on his investment.
Reports the New York Post:
“It’s very upsetting because there was a certain point where Lee was up-and-coming and Damon, as a music mogul and producer, really saw potential,” Dash’s attorney Natraj Bhushan told The Post.
“Lee went on to a very successful career and all Damon wants is what he’s rightfully entitled to,” Bhushan said.
Dash is suing Daniels for a return on his investment in six films including “The Woodsman” starring Kevin Bacon and “Precious.”
In 2004, Dash put $2 million into “The Woodsman,” but saw zero returns.
The $25 million Dash is seeking is to cover the initial investment, movie royalties and interest.
Dash is also suing Los Angeles talent manager Simone Sheffield, who works with Daniels, for defamation, claiming she sullied his name to Hollywood execs.
Clearly Dash keeps multiple lawyers on deck since last month John P. Fazzio, who was repping the Harlem native in an ongoing legal battle with Curren$y’s record label, quit. Fazzio claimed Dash has not paid his fees for services rendered or returned his calls, e-mails or texts.
