David Duke, the former KKK Grand Wizard, has surfaced in the news of late after it was revealed House majority whip Rep. David Scalise attended a conference put on by the one-time Klan leader. In a recent radio broadcast, Duke aimed harsh words at rapper Nicki Minaj and called her a degenerate.

Earlier this week, TIME published a report regarding the distance Duke has placed between himself and Scalise. The news of their connection came by way of a blogger in Louisiana, who revealed that Scalise attended and spoke at a European-American Unity and Rights Organization, or EURO conference in 2002. EURO was started by Duke and at the time, Scalise was a New Orleans state legislator. Scalise claims he didn’t know Duke’s involvement, although Duke spoke at the conference via satellite link.

Duke attacked Scalise on what he feels are pro-Israel leanings from many in Congress and said he wouldn’t vote for him if he ran again. Duke’s negative feelings towards Jewish interests have long been documented, but he took things up a notch when he name-checked Nicki Minaj during a Tuesday (Dec. 30) broadcast of his online radio show.

More from TIME:

At another point in the broadcast, he condemned the “absolute filth, drugs and violence” promoted by the hip-hop star Nicki Minaj. “Why do people blame blacks like Minaj?” he asked, rhetorically. “Because Minaj wouldn’t be a pimple on somebody’s rear end except for the fact that she is promoted by the Jewish record producers and the media, the mass media, the powerful media, that promotes absolute degenerates like her.”

Okay, then.
