President Barack Obama has made it known that he’s a big fan of HBO‘s cult classic crime series, The Wire. The president had the opportunity to interview the show’s creator David Simon in a one-on-one regarding America’s criminal justice system and needs for reform.

President and Obama appeared together in the taped interview, which was shown during Thursday’s (Mar. 26) #Cut50 Bipartisan Criminal Justice Summit in Washington, D.C. Touching on matters that would be close to Simon’s interests as the writer once worked as a crime reporter for The Baltimore Sun, the pair discussed the state of the criminal justice system. There was certain focus on the typically overstated sentences for non-violent drug offenders and tackling city safety.

President Obama opened the conversation up by praising The Wire, calling it “one of the greatest” television shows and a worthy work of art. Simon shared his experiences on the crime beat for the Sun, which in turn inspired The Wire and other shows that he’s worked on such as The Corner and Homicide: Life On The Streets.

Check out the conversation between President Barack Obama and The Wire creator, David Simon in the clip below.
