Hip-Hop’s latest and greatest power couple in Nicki Minaj and Meek Meek made their biggest headline in April when they intentionally fueled speculation that they were tying the knot after such a short period of dating.
Despite the huge ring (perfect for the “Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?” video, we say) the rumors have turned out to being nothing more than people perceiving too much from social media than waiting for an actual confirmation. The Maybach Music Group representative recently did some confirming of his own with The FADER for his cover shoot for their June/July 2015 issue and admitting that the engagement didn’t actually exist.
“It’s definitely real,” Meek said of his romance with The Pinkprint, which seemingly came out of nowhere. “But it ain’t really time to get married yet. We’re still learning each other, feeling each other out.”
But take it from a O.G. with lots of experience in the situation, Meek may not be as unattached as he thinks. He recalls how he ran out into T.I. in Los Angeles and he relayed some game only built for monogamous players.
When T.I. congratulated the Philly rhymer for the pending nuptials to which he got a sharp “I ain’t engaged” response. Tip’s rebuttal was nothing short of legendary.
“You never asked her, ‘Will you be my girlfriend?’ But she is your girlfriend,” he said. “You may not have asked her, ‘Will you marry me?’ But you are engaged.” Meek shrugged it off, saying, “I’ve said my part,” to which T.I. replied, “As long as you know what’s going on,” backing up with his hands up.
