Although it’s not slated to air until 2016, WGN has let loose the Underground trailer teaser for a series that is undoubtedly going to be one of television’s most provocative series ever created.

The :30 second video doesn’t show much in detail but drops a few hints on the sentiments that will be display in the show created by Misha Green (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Heroes”) and Joe Pokaski (“Daredevil,” “Heroes”), and executive producers Academy Award®-winning writer Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”) and Academy Award®-winner John Legend.

During the spot, a few field slaves are shown picking cotton where as one bends over to reveal the Holy Bible hidden in the small of their back, the other pulls out a pistol from his pants. The uprising will be televised.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios, Underground stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell (“True Blood,” “Friday Night Lights”), Aldis Hodge (“Straight Outta Compton”), Christopher Meloni (“Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”), Alano Miller (“Jane The Virgin”), ‎Jessica de Gouw (“Arrow,” “Dracula”), Marc Blucas (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), ‎Adina Porter (“The 100”), Mykelti Williamson (“Justified,” “24”), ‎Amirah Vann (“Girls,” “And So It Goes”), Johnny Ray Gill (“Rectify”), Chris Chalk (“Gotham”), Reed Diamond (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Theodus Crane (“The Walking Dead”), Renwick Scott (“Treme”) and Jussie Smollett (“Empire”).

On a related note, cotton farming in the southern United States is severely on the decline. There is too much bad history with that crop.
