Those familiar with Michelle Obama and her Let’s Move! campaign have seen her adamant efforts fight childhood obesity and encourage children to live healthier lifestyles. Dancing has often been the exercise of choice in the campaign, and things clearly haven’t changed, as the FLOTUS recently displayed a few of her smooth moves to Pitbull’s “Echa Pa’ Lla.”

Don’t expect a simple two step and a twist, though. This time the First Lady performed a Latin inspired dance under the tutelage of Univision’s Bárbara Bermundo, host of Primer Impacto.

Bermundo, who spoke highly of Obama’s warmth, sense of humor, and accessibility, admits their dancing occurred spontaneously after discussing the Let’s Move! campaign. “It was not prepared. I did bring the music and told her I had brought Pitbull’s single because I would like both of us to move together and to support the campaign,” said the Puerto Rican host. “She immediately said yes and asked me to teach her so we could practice the steps. She learned very fast!”

The dancing was part of the Let’s Move! campaign’s greater effort, which according to Bermundo aims to get 50,000 schools to have 60 more minutes of physical activity. The initiative is based on Obama’s belief that emphasized exercise accompanied with a good diet “ensures that every student has better attendance, test scores and learning ability.”

Obama’s willingness to dance to Pitbull should come as no surprise, considering urban culture’s undoubtable  influence on the First Lady’s Let’s Move! initiative. Since the campaign began three years ago, acts like Beyoncé and Fat Joe have properly represented the vision statement and purpose behind Obama’s efforts. Most recently the FLOTUS demonstrated her rhythm in a segment on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, titled “Evolution of Mom Dancing.”
