Kendrick Lamar‘s rise continues as the Compton, Calif. rapper will headline an exclusive launch party for culture and lifestyle magazine Mass Appeal at this year’s SXSW festival. Co-sponsored and hosted by Pharell Williams’ BBC Ice Cream imprint, K.Dot will be joined by some of Hip-Hop’s best and brightest.

On March 15, Mass Appeal will release its 52nd issue and to celebrate, Lamar gets top billing at the Austin Music Hall for the Ice Cream Official SXSW Social. Veterans Bun B and Pusha T are also part of the star-studded lineup, with celebrated rappers such as the gravel-voiced Roc Marciano, true school enthusiast Joey Bada$$, and zany Detroit wordsmith Danny Brown.  Rounding out the massive list is producer Harry Fraud (& friends), A$AP Ferg, Emilio Rojas, Alexander Spit, Nylo, and Bia along with surprise guests.

Although Kendrick Lamar doesn’t have any beef with his rap compatriots, the 25-year-old MC is paying attention to his competition after weighing in on MTV’s Hottest MC’s In The Game list which finalizes this week. “We need that. It’s competitive,” said Lamar in an interview with Rap-Up TV. “Even though we doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It’s still competitive and I’m trying to compete with everybody to be the best.”

Mass Appeal marks its return to the world of print with the new launch after going digital for a while. The magazine will drop quarterly with issue #52 available in the coming days after the event.
