A collaboration between rock icon Elvis Costello and the legendary Roots crew is really happening. The project is called Wise Up Ghost, and from its premiere single, “Walk Us Uptown,” in reality it will sound just as good as it does on paper.
?uestlove always sharp drums leads this funky number that also features some fuzzy bass and Costello’s throaty vocals. The collab was first revealed in January 2013 and came about as a result of the strong chemistry the acts shared whenever Costello visited the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon show.
Wise Up Ghost will be in stores on September 17 via Blue Note Records. Below is the album’s artwork, which was inspired by that of the City Lights Pocket Poets Series and is an ode to the cover of “Howl and Other Poems” by Allen Ginsberg, which was published in 1956.
