Marriage is the new trend in Hip-Hop, a pretty interesting development given the culture’s reputation for misogyny and sexism. Nevertheless, rappers have been locking down their women left and right as of late – particularly in the last several weeks.
What gives?
Big Sean jumped on the fast track with girlfriend Naya Rivera after six months on the books, followed by Kanye West’s ballpark proposal to Kim Kardashian last week, and finally Future and Ciara.
Of course, tying the rap knot is nothing new. There are cases like French Montana— who went the opposite direction and dumped his better half once he got famous— but the fact is, a good portion of rappers in the game are actually married or tied down.
So what does the new wave of marriage and monogamy mean for the rap game as a whole? Nothing really, personal relationship’s don’t necessarily dictate lyrical content, but in the spirit of “love and Hip-Hop,” peep 10 (other) rappers who are engaged.

Cam’ron
Killah Cam spent serious stacks to blessed his model chick JuJu with a $100,000 rock back in January. Cam and his voluptuous better half like to joke around, specifically on Vine. If you haven’t seen their “A Love Story” mini-move, take a look here. Pure comedy.
2 Chainz
2 Chainz has apparently killed a lot of weaves in his lifetime, but there’s only one female main he’s looking to lock down for an eternity, or so they say. T*ty Two is engaged to secret (or maybe we just weren’t looking) girlfriend, Nakesha Ward, and reportedly got the job done with a diamond bigger than the Kardashian’s.
Macklemore
Yeah, this guy raps, deal with it.
Anyway, Macklemore (of “Thrift Store” fame) has another partner that’s not sidekick Ryan Lewis, or a vocally gifted big Black dude. The Seattle native got engaged to his girlfriend of over seven years in January.
Fabolous
It’s just a rumor, but after 10 years together Fab might wanna go ahead and lock Emily B down – if he hasn’t already. Reports that Loso allegedly proposed to his decade-long concubine popped up after Ms. B was seen wearing a rock on her ring finger late last month. They also have a son together, so yeah, maybe marriage isn’t the worst idea.
Jim Jones
This one started kinda awkwardly. Jones proposed to girlfriend Chrissy Lampkin, but only after she popped the question on the first season of Love & Hip Hop. Two years, and a spin-off reality show, later and these two still haven’t made it down the aisle. Maybe they’re going the common law route?
Chief Keef
A limber and very classy member of the female race (allegedly) dedicated her life to Chief Keef over the summer. Model Pretty Mesha used social media to share her love for Sosa. Meanwhile, ya’ boy hasn’t had time to plan for a wedding because his legal issues are at struggle level orange (this highest level, in case you’re wondering).
The Game
Game proposed to Tiffney Cambridge –mother of two of his three children—in 2011, but the road to wedded bliss got pretty rocky thereafter. Game and Tiff have yet to get married but chronicle their love turmoil on the VH1 reality show Marrying the Game.
Tyga
With just three romantic words (“Rack city b-tch”) Tyga was able to align with the future mother of his son and now fiancée. T-Raw connected with former stripper Blac Chyna on the set of his “Rack City” video, and the rest is history.
Waka Flocka
Believe it or not, Waka Flocka is a family guy. Also, he’s very particular about his lyrics because he has a stepdaughter that looks up to him. Mother of said stepchild is fiancée Tammy Rivera, who he proposed to on his birthday. They haven’t announced a date yet, but who hopes Gucci will get an invite? *raises hands*
Papoose
Papoose locked into the engagement matrix way before it was the cool thing to do…circa 2008. He’s been holding Remy Ma down since she caught a bid for shooting her friend in the stomach (all lies, Remy says) in 2006. Papoose’s incarcerated ladylove is expected to fly free in mid-2014.
