DC rapper Wale has always been proud of his African roots. A new documentary called Wale: I Am From follows the Maybach Music Group artist during a recent, a long planned trip to Nigeria to connect with his family.
Wale was born in the United States but his parents migrated to the United State in 1979. The D.C. native finally visited Nigeria in November, with cameras in tow as he met with family and fans.
“The whole idea of the trip was for me to find some peace within my family and bring peace to my family,” Wale told the Washington Post. “Sometimes business can get in the way.”
Wale’s latest album, The Gifted, is in stores now. Wale: I Am From is Revolt’s first documentary and airs Monday, January 20 at 10 p.m. No worries if you don’t have cable, it will be available via Ustream an hour later.
