Nicki Minaj caught plenty of flack for using an iconic image of slain civil rights leader Malcolm X as a cover for her latest single, “Lookin’ Ass N**ga,” finally apologizing last night via Instagram. Minaj also called into Hot 97 to chat with Angie Martinez, once again apologizing, talking up Drake and discussing her upcoming The Pink Print album.

Minaj posted her lengthy apology on her IG page, but has since removed it. In her typically brash fashion, Minaj made sure to make her point heard first and has since complied with everyone by removing the image altogether from the network. To her credit, Minaj clearly stated she didn’t mean to offend the family by using the image.

“What seems to be the issue now? Do you have a problem with me referring to the people Malcolm X was ready to pull his gun out on as Lookin Ass N***az? Well, I apologize,” wrote Minaj. “I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass Niggaz and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!!”

Ah yes, that explains everything.

Meanwhile, Nicki Minaj caught up with Angie Martinez yesterday as well and dished about the controversy around “Lookin’ Ass N**ga,” while also addressing rumors that she, Drake and the YMCMB camp are at odds with other.

“Drake and I are great, that’s my baby,” said Minaj. “Drake is the one who told me to get on “Danny Glover.” I think the whole team collectively just feels so together right now. We all just kinda want to win.”

Minaj also shared some scant details on her upcoming third studio release, The Pink Print. The Young Money star says she won’t reveal a release date, but told Martinez she’s still putting the final touches on the record.
