“How the f**k n****as talking about, they rep the city and their joint sound like ‘Walk it Out?'” Torae questions while inhaling the crisp Brooklyn air during the video for the record “Blue Yankee Fitted.”
It’s an honest question guised underneath potent rap lyrics, seeing that Hip-Hop’s mecca has been repeatedly bashed for following trends opposed to setting the standard like they were known to do during much of the culture’s glory years. No one will make those accusations towards Torae and his adopted “Barrel Brother” Skyzoo, however. In case you didn’t get the memo, the longtime collaborators and real-life friends are finally embarking on a project together and it features a decidely East Coast vibe.
From back alleys to bodegas, to building rooftops, the baseball cap anthem captures all the original essence of the Hip-Hop diaspora through director Alex Ghassan’s camera lens. Versatile lyricism abound, witty metaphors and a city that appears to on No-Doz extra strength all help give the shoot convey its intended purpose. Which is to entertain your eyes with sound.
