In the battle of net neutrality, Netflix has taken a defiant position in the war on our eyeballs. With that said, the binge watcher’s delight has added some new flicks for your viewing enjoyment. It’s no secret that Netflix offers new programs and movies to its library, but these additions are worthy of your attention. With companies all vying for your dollars and clicks, Netflix is currently in a FCC battle involving net neutrality. The video streaming company has been more than outspoken in its position, but other companies are getting comfy with the competition. Godzilla: King of the Monsters

  With Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla reboot close to attacking audiences, Netflix promises an opportunity to get familiar with the undisputed king of the monsters. Not one, but five Godzilla films are available for streaming, King of the Monsters just happens to be appropriate with its return to the big screen.

School Daze

  Spike Lee’s semi-autobiographical tale about his time at Mission College is equipped with enough one-liners to fill a gymnasium. From seeing a pre-Curly Samuel L. Jackson get brolic to watching Tisha Campbell go after the crown for the first time, School Daze is a true cinematic classic.

Kill Bill Vol. 1

You can get your chance to see the story of “The Bride,” played by Uma Thurman, as she seeks revenge against her ex-colleauges who assaulted her. Kill Bill Vol. 2

Pain And Gain

The trio play three muscle-heads who attempt to extort money from a mark as a quick path to the high life. You won’t believe just how much stuff really happened when you watch this flick.

Machete Kills

Photo: WENN Based upon Robert Rodriguez’s imagination, Danny Trejo reprises the role of federale Machete Cortez. The action-comedy boasts appearances by Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Sofia Vergara, and Mel Gibson. The premise follows the fake-trailer-turned-blockbuster formula, as Machete must stop a terrorist threat from attacking the United States. For fans of Tarantino, this is the guy who inspired him to be great.

Scandal

Metallica Through The Never

Photo: WENN Sharing the name of the band’s 1991 black album, Through the Never, the film follows a young man (The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s Dane DeHaan) surreal adventures. Sewing together concert footage with a narrative, fans of the legendary rock band will enjoy this creative attempt through Netflix.

Wicker Park

Photo: WENN The title refers to Chicago’s near northwest side and is a remake of the 1996 French film, L’Appartement. The film would go on to be nominated for the Grand Prix at the Film Festival of Montreal, but it is the project’s cast that makes this a must see experience. The psychological drama slash mystery film finds Josh Hartnett obsessively trying to find his lost love. With the weather still askew, Wicker Park is a perfect weekend movie to watch with a current love.

Star Trek Into Darkness

How that film has held up since its debut is up for debate, which is why now that it’s available on Netflix, it can be discussed and weighed upon.

Free Birds

Ichi The Killer

Ichi created a maelstrom of controversy and is banned in at least several countries. Thankfully, here in America, you’re allowed to not only watch this film, but can stream it at your leisure. Just be forewarned that this is not for the faint of heart or for those with a weak stomach.

Backdraft

Photo: WENN Starring Kurt Russell, William Baldwin, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and a host of Hollywood A-list talent, Backdraft raked in big bucks back in the day. The story finds a group of Chicago firefighters hot on the heels of a serial arsonist who uses trychtichlorate to start fires. While only you can prevent infernos from happening around you, you should check out this hotter than July film.

Leviathan

Photo: WENN Created in the vein of the Alien films, this sci-fi thriller which stars Peter Weller finds a hideous creature stalking a group of humans. It was one of the many underwater-themed movies that was released in the 80’s, and definitely one to watch if you’re a fan of films such as The Abyss.

Bullet

Photo: WENN One of Tupac Shakur’s final appearances on film, Bullet found him playing a gangster with a score to settle against Mickey Rourke’s protagonist character named Bullet. The film was released a month after Shakur’s murder and was critically panned, but as we continue to celebrate the life of the Hip-Hop legend, Bullet is a film that any fan of his could appreciate.

Don Jon

Photo: WENN Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut finds him as a Jersey jerky boy who falls for the gorgeous whims of Scarlett Johansson. Unbeknownst to his new love, Don Jon harbors a secret porn addiction that threatens his new relationship. The film surprised everyone with how much heart it had, so if you haven’t seen it check it out.

Anthony Bourdain
