The Breakfast Club is known for their high profile celebrity interviews. But when Mary J. Blige stepped into the building, the bar was raised.
As she ramps towards the release of her new album, The London Sessions, the Yonkers native is letting the people know she hasn’t vacated her throne as the queen of Hip-Hop Soul. DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God welcomed her with open arms and all the questions the public has always wanted to know. Mary talked about Diddy, Jay Z, singing for 20 years, her new album and more.

1. Happy Mary
At one time Mary felt like both her record company and fans were trying to keep her in a sad state as many people feel her material was best when she was heartbroken.
2. The Book
For years people have told Mary to write book. She has yet to start it but is strongly considering it.
3. Husband / Manager
Mary admits that having her husband as her manager can be tough but they have gotten to a common ground where their relationship doesn’t get affected by their business dealings.
4. The London Sessions
Her new album originally was supposed top be an EP but was turned to a full album when one of her singles grew to be a huge hit overseas.
5. Diddy
Mary felt in a serious ways when Diddy signed Faith Evans to Bad Boy Records. She felt he was trying to recreate her magic. Thankfully she got over her feelings and now Mary and Diddy have a wonderful relationship.
6. Hip-Hop
Mary admitted she is very much still a Hip-Hop head and still listens to Black Moon.
7. Back In The Days
Mary said back in the day she was very much a tyrant and was banned from a lot of places due to her and crew’s behavior.
8. Neutrality
Over the years she has been friends with people that didn’t get along. She attributes to maintaining those relationships to really loving these individuals as friends.
9. Can’t Knock The Hustle
When asked how did “Can’t Knock The Hustle” came about, she said Damon Dash asked her to get on the record. After she heard it she loved it and knew Jay would be a special artist.
10. Crispy Chicken
Mary and her husband / manager Kendu said neither of them was thinking when they shot the infamous Burger King commercial.
11. Mr. Wrong
Mrs. Blige also let it be known that she made other career mistakes including shooting the “Mr. Wrong” inside of strip club with strippers. Afterwards she thought “why did I do that”.
