Funkmaster Flex has an issue with Jay Z’s Life+Times site. As he is prone to do, Flex went on a rant about Life+Times based on what he alleged was info gathered from his own smartphone app. Just for fun, Flex threw in a quip about the Diplomats, who aren’t exactly chummy with Jay Z.

FUNKMASTER FLEX

Grab your popcorn. Despite being a radio personality, Flex has never been shy about going at artists and even fellow on-air talent. These are just the most notable of 12 of Funkmaster Flex’s wildest beefs. Was he justified or out of line?

Damon Dash

Funkmaster Flex and Dame Dash got into it when Dame went on his rant about “culture vultures.” Dame went hard at Interscope executive Joie Manda, and Funk Flex retaliated. This was ultimately squashed.

2 Chainz

2 Chainz

Flex told Bomani Jones and Dan Le Batard of ESPN’s Highly Questionable 2 Chainz was one of his worst on-air freestyles. In return, Chainz rapped about jacking Flex for “one of them raggedy a** old schools” on the song “Freebase.” In a moment of restraint, Flex played it cool and did not retaliate.

2Pac

In the type of onstage rant that we assumed was done in 1997, Funkmaster Flex accused rap fans of excessively praising Tupac Shakur and offered the option of missing Notorious B.I.G. as if they were mutually exclusive. ‘Pac fans were not pleased. Surprisingly, Flex apologized.

DJ Clue

Clue and Funk Flex have been rivals dating back to the Power 105 and Hot 97 beef. There was a little fuel added to an ongoing fire in 2012 when Flex sent some Twitter shots following Hot 97’s premiere of Nicki Minaj’s “Beez In The Trap.”

DJ Envy

Instagram seems to be where all beefs go to die. In June of 2014, Flex posted a picture of a cease an desist from Envy and referred to Envy as “McGruff The Snitch.” DJ Envy fired back by calling him a “worthless, jealous, pathetic, old man” who was tainting his legacy. It’s safe to say the gloves are off.

R. Kelly

R. Kelly

When R. Kelly was cleared of child pornography charges in 2008, Funkmaster Flex felt some kind of way. He took the air and said, “I and other people on T.V. are all responsible for this dude feeling comfortable enough to go on T.V. and do an interview talking about he likes 19-year-olds.”

Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj

Flex threatened to ruin Nicki Minaj’s career when she skipped out on Hot 97’s 2012 Summer Jam. Ultimately, Flex and Nicki had a heated, unedited, hour-long conversation to air out their differences. The best beefs are the ones that get worked out before escalating.

Steph Lova

DJ Steph Lova

In 2002, Flex was arrested for allegedly assaulting rival DJ Steph Lova outside the Hot 97 offices after Nas accused him of payola in an interview with Steph Lova. Flex was charged with harassment and subjected to community service and a restraining order.

Olivia

Flex sounded like he was 100% on Team 50 when Fif dropped Olivia from G-Unit. Flex repeatedly hit Olivia with “pineapple” references and dissed her energy until they had a terse reconciliation on air in 2012.

Nino Cuccinello/Interscope

Funkmaster Flex’s beef with Interscope executive Nino Cuccinello was short in sweet. In 2009, for unknown reasons, Flex tried to institute a ban on all Interscope artists. Needless to say, Hot 97 program director Ebro Darden was not having it.

Amber Rose

Amber Rose

Much like his spat with Olivia, Flex’s problem with Amber Rose seemed to be a beef by association after her breakup with Kanye West. Flex took plenty of subliminal and overt shots, and Amber did the same over the air and via Twitter. These two did the adult thing and hashed out their differences face to face.

Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter

Jay Z

After gushing over Jay Z’s exclusive premiere of “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” with Hot 97 in 2009, it’s interesting to see Flex pull a 180 and disparage Jay’s Life+Times website. With Flex making statements like, “Don’t think I can’t ruin you,” it will be interesting to see how this one ends.
