The Economist Intelligent Union recently released its list of the world’s safest cities. So if you’re planning some international travel these are the areas where your precious passport stamps are best used.
The EIU isn’t just jotting down what “feels safe.” Their methodology is based upon factors such as the frequency of vehicular accidents, infrastructure safety (i.e. there won’t be a military coup during your visit), and digital security. Here are their picks for the world’s 10 safest cities. Use your miles wisely.

Tokyo, Japan
According to the EIU, Tokyo is the safest place for your data. Your laptops, tablets, and smartphones should be good to go in Japan’s capital.
Singapore
If you can’t swing the visit to Tokyo, Singapore ranks just behind Tokyo according to the EIU’s formula.
Osaka, Japan
Rich, Asian cities populate the top three due to the EIU’s correlation between digital safety and statistical safety. Osaka also ranked high in health security, so again, Japan wins out here.
Stockholm, Sweden
In terms of the EIU’s “safe city index,” Stockholm ranked third, which means it’s well-rounded in terms of digital safety, infrastructure, and health safety. That’s a win.
Amsterdam, Kingdom of the Netherlands
Amsterdam ranked ninth in personal safety overall, but the EIU declared it the second safest city in Europe behind Stockholm. By all accounts, this is a passport stamp worth collecting.
Sydney, Australia
Solid overall rankings and a 91.4 out of 100 ranking in infrastructure keep Sydney high on the list of top cities.
Zurich, Switzerland
Zurich ranked tops in health security, which explains it’s placing in the top 10. Feel free to put away the tissues and hand sanitizer if you’re so inclined.
Toronto, Ontario (British Columbia)
Top overall measures in health safety and infrastructure work in Toronto’s favor. Plus, who doesn’t want to visit or live in a place where you can “Spock” your dollar bills?
Melbourne, Australia
Melbourne ranked second in the all-important category of infrastructure safety. Most visitors take such things for granted, but tourism tends to do well you don’t have to worry about people carrying around AK-47s.
